The Snow Child, published in Angela Carter's 1979 anthology, The Bloody Chamber, is a mere two pages long, but it is unarguably the most shocking short story in the anthology. With an envious Countess, a girl child born solely of a paternal, lustful desire, and a grieving, necrophiliac Count, the story explores the dangers of patriarchal control in female envy, Freudian, incestuous desire, and power struggles between old and new. For her Final Major Project during her Illustration for Commercial Application degree, Morrighan adapted this dark, gothic story into a long-form comic, using full page illustrations to explore Carter's beautiful, intense imagery.
